Nintendo GameBoy

Nintendo GameBoy This page contains the test results on the compatibility, accuracy and timing of KiGB and 4 most popular and
highly-rated Gameboy emulators on games/demos in GoodGBX V2.02. The purpose of this page is to help making
Gameboy emulators perfect - Knowing the hardest games to be emulated is the key, don't you think? To see the
supported and un-supported features, click here.

The results were collected based on KiGB v2.02 and the latest versions of the 4 emulators. There were 2 testing
platforms - PC1 (P4 506, 512MB RAM, MS WinXP) and PC2 (P3 550MHz, 192MB RAM, MS WinMe). Originally, the
compatibility pages were constrcuted using PC2 when this project was started. Emulator A, C and D do not have
updates since the last test. So, I left the testing results in PC2. KiGB and Emulator B are re-tested under PC1.

The test was run in 2x2 size in windowed mode with no frame skip under 32-bit color depth. Mix Frame or similar
feature if supported was turned on. Low pass sound filter was on. Initial SGB border was set. If available, use
GBC LCD "washout" colors. Other settings, whenever available, are set as close to a real GB/GBC as possible. A
Gameboy Color and a classic Gameboy were acted as the control environment depending on the game types. Unless
otherwise stated, all games were verified using the real Gameboy Color or classic Gameboy.

KiGB has no hacks or similar things. This makes life very difficult - any changes no matter how small may affect all
games. By doing this way, we are confident KiGB can support any games, no matter they are tested or not, new or not
yet released. Exception is the game 8-in-1. This game cannot be run in a real GBC.

Emulator A: VisualBoyAdvance V1.7.2 (filter: Motion blur, Sound: 44KHz)
Emulator B: bgb V1.11 (checked "prefer compatibility, initialize GBC pal with 4 greys, Bandlimited CH1/CH2", GBC + initial SGB border", unchecked "fast SGB transfer")
Emulator C: no$gmb V2.5
Emulator D: TGB Dual Version Vol.7 (Build 2053) (t0.98)

Colors of the screen dumps may not be correct due to the conversion of PCX to GIF.
Games which are not supported properly by KiGB are marked in red in their titles. Currently none :)
Emulator C and D do not support the "Mix Frame" feature, no comparison will be made on this area.
Emulator C does not support hi-colors, only 256 colors are supported.
